This Is Zodiac Sign Has the Most Nobel Prize Winners in History
Have you ever wondered which zodiac sign is the smartest? Most of us likely think it has to be whichever sign ours is. However, we can't all be right in that thinking, and until now, it's been unclear which sun sign actually gets the bragging rights. Thanks to a recent project, which looked at 900 Nobel Prize winners and broke them down by their sun sign, we now have a (somewhat definitive) answer about which sign is most intelligent, and it may surprise you.
Before we share the answers, though, you must understand a few crucial facts about astrology and life. To start, obviously one does not need a Nobel Prize to be intelligent; that's a ridiculously high standard. Secondly, you are more than your sun sign. As astrologer Annabel Gat reminds us, while a sun sign can be a quick and fun way to learn about yourself, for a full understanding of how astrology affects you, you must look at your entire chart.
"I would like to know if a particular Uranus or Pluto generation has an extraordinarily high number of Nobel Prize winners," Gat says. "Uranus and Pluto are both planets association with discovery, change, transformation. Sun signs tell us a lot about a person’s life purpose, but we have a whole sky of planets to examine, so as an astrologer, while these lists are fun, they aren’t everything." But, for fun's sake, let's look at the list, created by looking at the sun signs of 117 years of prize winners, to see who came out on top (and bottom).
Which signs are the biggest overachievers, according to Nobel Prize wins??
1. Gemini:
The grand winner is Gemini, with 97 Nobel Prize winners, including Bob Dylan (remember when he won a Nobel Prize for literature?). "Gemini at the top is no shocker — Geminis have brilliant minds, being ruled by quick-witted Mercury," Gat says. Geminis can have a negative reputation for being two-faced, however, while some may act in such a manner, Geminis are not only smart but so much fun. They're the life of the party but can also hold an emotional conversation and act as a true friend in a time of need.
2. Libra:
Coming in second place is Libra with 93 winners. Libra is the sign of balance and relationships, which explains why T.S. Elliot, creator of some of the best love poems on Earth, won a Nobel Prize.
3. Virgo:
Virgo, known for their organization and analytical abilities surely have the professional skills to excel in life and snag an award or two along the way.
4. Cancer:
Coming in fourth place is Cancer with 81 winners. Cancer, represented by the crab, is typically associated with family and the home. Such priorities make them caring people, which explains why the Dalai Lama, Nelson Mandela, and Malala Yousafzai, the youngest Nobel Prize winner of all time, are all Cancers and all took home the award for the Peace category.
5. Aries:
Up fifth is Aries, which is surprisingly low, giving the fire sign's determined nature. However, 76 Nobel Prizes is nothing to sneeze at, so keep that in mind when looking at this list.
6. Taurus:
Smack in the middle is Taurus, who came in at sixth place. If we want to give in to stereotypes, this ranking actually makes sense. Taurus is known for their love of leisure and luxury, and they can also be a bit lazy. Some Taureans would just rather enjoy a picnic with really good cheese and wine than chase down a Nobel Prize. Others, however, are stubborn, and when they have a goal in mind, nothing can stop them from achieving it.
7. Sagittarius:
Sagittarius comes in seventh place, which is a bit of a shock considered how the centaur sign loves all things academia and also enjoy being in the spotlight. Sorry, Sag.
8. Pisces:
Sagittarius is followed by Pisces, the philosopher of the zodiac. Pisces is a water sign filled with depth, although they can be a bit flakey (perhaps because they often love their weed), so perhaps these pretty fish were too busy with other things to focus on the Nobel Prize.
9: Aquarius:
Aquarius, the water-bearer of the zodiac, is also surprisingly low on the list, considering they're known for their love of the people, political activism, and drive to help others (Oprah is an Aquarius). Perhaps these otherworldly beings were too busy making the world a more interesting place to win awards. They tend to prefer recognition of the fruits of their labor to awards, so this placement actually isn't that surprising upon further contemplation.
10: Leo:
Leos will be annoyed to learn how low they are on this list, considering the lion's love of attention. But from their good hair to their ability to always steal the spotlight and be the life as the party, they will be totally fine without a Nobel. However, this sign is not without its awards; Barack Obama, a Leo, represents the sign well with his Nobel Peace Prize.
11: Scorpio:
Scorpio is the sign of rebirth, is obsessed with sex and death, and many Scorpios tend to be super intense. They can live extremely interesting lives and always have a story to share, but as a Scorpio myself, I can confirm that sometimes our stingers often prevent us from being Nobel Prize material. Scorpios just want to be loved for who they are.
12: Capricorn:
Coming in dead last is Capricorn, which is actually pretty shocking. These water goats are well-regarded for their professionalism and business abilities. "I’m surprised to see Capricorn so low on the list, being that they are very hard-working and competitive," Gat says.
Capricorn coming in last just proves Gat's earlier point: For a complete understanding of someone, you must look at their entire chart, and not just the sun sign.
