Every second day eat nothing counteracts the natural aging process and leads to weight loss. The shows now a study with normal-weight participants in the journal "Cell Metabolism" appeared.
Interval fasting is a growing Trend: nearly the end of dispense during certain times on solid or liquid food. A common Form is the 5:2 diet, when there are two feasts fast days per week and five days, in which everything is permitted. Even more radically, the alternating fasting (Alternate Day Fasting, ADF) is to be included, in which all two days of no calories. This diet form examined by a team of researchers led by Dr. Slaven Stekovic of the University of Graz in terms of their effects on different markers of aging. The prerequisite for participation in the study was that the individuals were overweight, but a normal Body Mass Index (BMI) had.
This showed people who took four weeks of ADF, recorded below the line, 37 percent fewer calories and lost an average of 3.5 kilograms. In addition, the abdominal fat and other risk factors for cardiovascular reduced diseases such as blood pressure and pulse rate were positively influenced. In the comparison group, the participants ate more in the usual way, which led to a significant weight loss.
The fast ends were then observed over a year and a half. During this time, no side effects showed a negative effect on bone density was, the mirror of the age-associated inflammatory marker sICAM-1 decreased as the cholesterol level and the value of the thyroid hormone Triiodothyronine. Previous studies have provided evidence that behind the improved heart health, and the life-prolonging effect could put a down regulation of metabolism by the thyroid gland. This is true also for conventional diets, in which the amount of calories is also reduced. In order to determine which of the observed effects in fact go back to the ADF and which are simply a reduction in calories, the scientists demanded further investigation.
For the practice two important messages can still be derived: the ADF is also over a period of six months, is safe and leads to better health and a reduction in weight. Because of the potential effects on the thyroid gland it should not be done without medical supervision.
