Better school grades for children who often read books

What and how much the children outside the school reading, has a direct effect on their academic performance in mathematics and other subjects. This is from a Spanish study of more than 43,000 students in the journal "Oxford Review of Education" was published.

A study among pupils and students aged from 10 to 14 years found that those who read daily, high-quality books, sections in mathematics better and, on average, 0.22 points better school grades had. This corresponded to a school advantage of about ten percent, or three months in each of three school years.

Newspapers, Comics, or magazines, had no similar effect, only the reading of short stories had slight advantages. Girls read according to the study, more frequently, short stories, books, and Newspapers, young more Comics and magazines. Young people from disadvantaged backgrounds read less overall.

Sophisticated Bücher instead of Comics

Children who spend time reading, improve their Reading and writing skills. Exercise and longer as well as challenging texts contribute more to it. "Reading is a basic ability in our life plays a key role. In an increasingly digital world, it is important that young people are encouraged to find time to read a good book. Our results provide evidence that it is not just a matter of whether young people read or not, but also on what they read.", summed up Luis Alejandro Lopez-Agudo, University of Malaga, the results.
