Global day of action against blood cancer
For the fifth Time on 28. May the World Blood Cancer Day, the world’s people a sign of solidarity with blood cancer patients. The day was initiated by the German bone marrow donor file (DKMS), in order to draw attention to the issue and to gain supporters in the fight against the disease. Around the globe, organizers of the stem cell donor files and registries, transplant centers, initiative groups and other helpers in action.
Young people can remain over a long period of time as a donor in the file registers and are suitable due to their age most of the time for a stem cell donation. Therefore, the DKMS has called in this year also students to engage with the issue of blood cancer and stem cell donation.
Students of the Integrated school in Erfurt, organized a Registration drive at your school, so as to give patients hope. The Prime Minister, Bodo Ramelow and actor Ivo Kortlang visit the students and draw them in the name of the DKMS for your use. To illustrate, what is the meaning of blood cancer, the DKMS also have a Virtual Reality Truck.
But not only young people can donate stem cells: Everyone can get involved with registering as stem cell donors, and friends, relatives and Acquaintances to motivate it to do the same. Global solidarity is a life-saver, because the more people are registered with as many different genetic characteristics in the file, the greater the Chance that one day will be found for every blood cancer patient a suitable stem cell donor.
Worldwide every 35 seconds ill a man of blood cancer. For many of them, a stem cell donation means the only or last Chance at life.
