Like the Rest of America, I Can’t Stop Staring at Inaugural Poet Amanda Gorman’s Highlighter

"When day comes we ask ourselves, where can we find light in this never-ending shade?" On Wednesday, poet Amanda Gorman delivered this opening line of her "The Hill We Climb" poem for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris's inauguration. At 23 years old, Gorman is the youngest poet to ever read at a presidential inauguration — but with the way her words moved the audience, it's clear she was made for this moment. While her poetic language became instantly immortalized across social media, it wasn't the only thing that caught people's attention. Folks on Twitter were almost as mesmerized by her glowing makeup and cool, oversized headband.

The Poet Laureate took to the podium in a gorgeous bright yellow pea coat, perfect for the chilly DC weather. To match the colorful jacket, a fiery red headband sits on top of her twists, which were pulled into a topknot. These crochet twists look freshly installed and super neat. We definitely need the details on what edge control she uses because those edges are slicked back.

The young poet is literally glowing likely thanks to a combination of amazing skin-care products, expert makeup skills, and genetics. Gorman's makeup is fairly minimalist with her dewy base, a simple cat eye, and arched eyebrows. On each cheekbone and the inner corners of her eyes, you can spot some flecks of shimmery highlights that give her this gorgeous golden glow. Ahead of her speech, Gorman gave us some close-up shots of her makeup, which coordinated quite nicely with her gem-encrusted mask.

Though we don't know the exact products she used, the Milani Cosmetics Baked Highlighter in Champagne D'Oro is a great option for recreating that gleam.

Plenty of folks rushed to Twitter to offer their praise for the performance and the look. Twitter user @loveg0dherself tweeted, "Ok, Amanda Gorman! Braids fresh, makeup glowing, poetry beautifully written. I can't help but stan." There's even some intergenerational stanning happening, too. Bolu Babalola aka @BeeBabs remarked how her mother recommended she recreate Gorman's look. "My mum is now telling me I should do my makeup like Amanda Gorman," Babalola tweeted. That's just two of the many other tweets complimenting Gorman's words and overall look.
