Mum baffled by bizarre message from woman claiming to have slept with husband
Realising your relationship might not be as rock solid as you thought is most people’s idea of a nightmare – particularly if it comes out of the blue.
A mum says she received a shocking message from a mysterious woman on Facebook who claims she’s had sex with her husband four times.
The woman, whose profile is "locked down", even sent the dates they allegedly slept together and the names of the couple’s kids, which totally spooked the mum – but she’s still not sure if the story adds up.
Writing on Mumsnet, she said: "I received a FB message a couple of days ago from someone who is claiming to have slept with my [husband].
"I’m pretty sure it’s nonsense but I guess it’s niggling at me a little bit – she knows my name, named [husband] and our children, so I don’t think it’s mistaken identity
"She’s given me 4 dates when they’re supposed to have been together."
The mum went on to say that the four dates don’t add up, as three of them are "impossible".
One one date the family was abroad, on another they were at a family wedding, and on the third the mum’s brother was staying and she didn’t see her hubby slip out. She doesn’t remember what they were up to on the fourth date but nothing struck her as suspicious.
"I don’t know her, I’ve looked her up on Facebook but her profile is locked down – I don’t recognise her from her profile pic and we don’t seem to have any mutual friends."
The mum wrote that her partner doesn’t seem very "secretive" but questions why someone would send her that message if it wasn’t true.
She added: "It’s mistaken identity or someone being weird, but at the same time the message is sitting in my inbox and every time I see it I do wonder."
The post received over a hundred replies from Mumsnet with theories about what could be going on here – and people can’t agree on it.
Some said they would be suspicious had they received the message.
One wrote: "Nothing is impossible. [There’s a] famous story of a man who took his mistress on holiday and installed her in the same hotel as his wife."
Another said: "On the one hand she may be a malicious loon, on the other she may have got the dates wrong. I guess I’d ask her for more details."
A third said: "Sorry but why would she make it up, I certainly would not dismiss it I’d have to contact her for hard evidence, it’s easy to delete messages and cover tracks and every woman says their man is faithful, sorry but not always true."
Others thought the mum should trust her man as he’s given her no reason to doubt him – especially as it’s possible to find out personal information like their names from social media.
One said: "Sounds weird, could be some scam/blackmail thing. Details such as kids names are very easy to find online, as scary as that is."
Some people thought she should confront her husband to gauge his reaction, or tell the woman her dates don’t add up to see if she comes back with something "credible".
