Former WWE Wrestler Ashley Massaro Dies Suddenly At 39

Former WWE wrestler and Survivor: China contestant, Ashley Massaro died Thursday in her home in Suffolk County, New York.

Ashley, 39, was pronounced dead Thursday morning at a hospital near her home, according to TMZ. While officials have not revealed the cause of death, an autopsy is being performed, and TMZ says her death is being classified as “non-criminal” by the Suffolk Country Police Department.

Ashley made her World Wresting Entertainment (WWE) debut in 2005 when she won that year’s WWE Diva Search. After two years in the ring, Ashley joined the fifteenth season of CBS’s Survivor, filmed in China in 2007. She ended her wrestling tenure a year after that in 2008.

“We are saddened to learn of the tragic death of former WWE Superstar Ashley Massaro,” WWE wrote in a statement shared Thursday. “She performed in WWE from 2005-2008 and was beloved by her fellow Superstars and fans around the world. WWE offers its condolences to Ashley’s family and friends.”

Ashley is survived by her 18-year-old daughter, Alexa, who honored her mom with two separate Instagram Stories yesterday.

“I wish I could have gotten more recent pictures,” Alexa wrote, captioning a photo of her and her mother posing on a red carpet. “I love you mommy I wanted to wake up in your arms more than anything I want to give u a big hug please come back this can’t be real.”

In a second post, Massaro shared a photo from her childhood being held by her mom, this time captioned with the words, “Please god this can’t be it.” Our thoughts are with Ashley’s family and friends.
