Eczema – three of the best natural moisturisers to prevent dry and itchy skin at home
Eczema is a long-term condition that causes the skin to become dry, itchy, red and cracked, according to the NHS. Young children are most at risk of developing eczema symptoms. But it could also develop in later life. If you have eczema, your symptoms can vary between small patches of dry skin, to widespread, inflamed areas of cracked skin. One of the best eczema treatments to get rid of the dry skin condition is aloe vera gel, it’s been claimed.
You could also reduce eczema symptoms by using apple cider vinegar
Aloe vera gel could help to relieve eczema symptoms as it’s a natural antibacterial and antimicrobial, according to medical website Medical News Today.
Aloe vera has wound-healing properties that helps to soothe broken skin, it said.
“People have used aloe vera gel for centuries to treat a wide range of ailments,” said the medical website. “One common use is to soothe eczema.
“The antibacterial and antimicrobial effects can prevent skin infections, which are more likely to occur when a person has dry, cracked skin.
“Choose aloe gel products with few ingredients — others can contain preservatives, alcohol, fragrances, and colours, all of which can irritate sensitive skin.”
You could also reduce eczema symptoms by using apple cider vinegar as a moisturiser, it added.
Seeing as vinegar is very acidic, it helps to strengthen the skin’s natural defences, said the medical website.
It could also help to balance the skin’s acidity levels. but it’s important to dilute apple cider vinegar before using it as a moisturiser.
“Always dilute apple cider vinegar before applying it to the skin. Undiluted vinegar can cause chemical burns or other injuries.
“People can use the vinegar in wet wraps or baths, and it is available in most supermarkets and health stores.”
Coconut oil may also help patients to relieve some signs of eczema, as it contains a number of healthy fatty acids.
