Covid symptom that plays a huge part in the Pirola variant

Dr Nighat discusses symptoms of new Covid strain

Dr Nighat Arif warned one specific symptom seems to play a “huge part” with the new Pirola variant.

The TV doctor explained that the Omicron spin-off seems to be causing severe fatigue in patients who fall ill with it.

Speaking on ITV’s show This Morning, Dr Arif said: “We’re seeing people who are just feeling shattered.”

Fatigue as a symptom of Covid even seems to be “more common” than the classic signs like cough, fever and loss of smell, according to the Zoe Health Study.

In fact, the health portal reported that 82 percent of their app contributors who tested positive for the virus experienced this sign.

While fatigue seems to be a tell-tale sign of the new variant, it can also present with many other health problems.

Fortunately, the intensity could help you spot if you are dealing with Covid fatigue.

The Zoe Health Study reports: “Fatigue in COVID-19 is not the same as normal feelings of being tired or sleepy. It’s a type of extreme tiredness or feeling ‘wiped out’ that persists despite resting or getting a good night’s sleep.

“If you have fatigue, you may notice it occurs even after small tasks and limits your usual day-to-day activity. It can feel difficult to walk up stairs, do normal chores, or even to get out of bed.”

Furthermore, Covid-related fatigue can also make it hard to concentrate or remember things.

When it comes to the onset of this symptom, Dr Nathan Goodyear, Covid expert and medical director at Brio Medical, told Express.co.uk that fatigue can appear during a Covid infection either early or late.

From inflammation to sleep disruption caused by the virus, the doctor explained that the exact cause of Covid fatigue will dictate when this symptom strikes.

Despite fatigue being a prevalent Covid sign, the doctor also warned that many people who feel tired or worn out won’t have Covid.

The doctor added: “Fatigue is an amorphous blob of symptoms and equal part causes. One could see it more of a multi-level construct instead of a specific symptom or a disease.”

What’s worse, other symptoms might not be able to determine whether you have Covid, as Dr Goodyear explained that many individuals may contract the virus “with minimal to no symptoms”.

“As a result, a significant number of individuals will never know, let alone think, to test for Covid,” he added.

However, testing remains an important tool in the detection of the virus and could help reveal the culprit even before the first symptoms strike.
