This New K-Beauty Makeup Collection Is Inspired by Spicy Ramen Noodles
If you're a ramen fan who's lucky enough to live near a Korean market — or it's occurred to you to that Amazon sells literally everything — there's a decent chance you've tried Samyang's Buldak Spicy Chicken Ramen. Launched in South Korea in 2012, it has become a hugely popular instant-noodles meal, thanks in part to its cartoon chicken mascot (who has a bowl haircut, by the way). It's so beloved, in fact, that K-beauty brand Tonymoly saw an obvious opportunity for a ridiculous yet brilliant collaboration.
Earlier this month, Tonymoly announced the launch of the Samyang x Tonymoly Hot Edition makeup collection, packaged to fit right in with the fiery noodles. “Through this unusual collaboration with Spicy Buldak Chicken Ramen, we are excited to launch special and entertaining products,” a Tonymoly official told The Korean Herald.
The collection includes the Hot Coverdak Cushion, a cushion-compact foundation that comes with a refill made to look like a sauce packet; Noodle Blusher, which comes in a bright red called Bad Red and a super-pale pink called Carbolighter; a lip balm called the Lip Care Stick (above); and Lip Sauce Tint, which comes in Spicy Red and Cheese Red (yes, Cheese Red).
Reddit users in the subreddit AsianBeauty noticed that beautyboxkorea.com is selling the collection to U.S. shoppers, and they're especially excited that, as one commenter put it, "it comes with actual noodles omg." Yep — alongside the makeup, you can buy a 70-gram Spicy Fried Noodle Buldak Bokkeummyun Cup.
"I'm obsessed with Samyang spicy noodles and I've tried every single flavor…but I feel a little uncomfortable with the thought of fire sauce lip products," one commenter wrote, noting that it's unclear whether or not the tints and balm feel spicy on the lips. It doesn't seem to matter to another commenter, who wrote, "ive never been so hyped about a collab in my life."
But perhaps it's Redditor DewyEggWhite who summarized the existence of the Samyang x Tonymoly Hot Edition collection best: "What a time to be alive."
