How Kylie Jenner Changed the Design of Her House After Finding Out She Was Pregnant
Having a baby changes everything.
About three months after Kylie Jenner started working on designing her Hidden Hills mansion with interior designer Martyn Lawrence Bullard, the reality star learned she was pregnant with daughter Stormi Webster, now 1 — which meant she would have to make a few tweaks to her plans.
“We just started the project and then she told me that she was pregnant,” Bullard tells PEOPLE. “We reworked some of the design for the baby, of course. We had to make a proper nursery and change another room for a playroom, and just make the house somehow kid-friendly but still maintain the power and strength of the design Kylie wanted.”
Bullard goes on to explain that although 21-year-old Jenner, who was 20 at the time, already “had a bunch of houses,” her Hidden Hills space was the first of her properties that “really felt like home.”
“She wanted to make sure that this home had all the aspects of the things that she loves and the things that she needs,” the designer shares, specifically mentioning the star’s glam room, her spacious dining room and her incredibly well-equipped kitchen.

Kylie Jenner’s Designer Reveals How Travis Scott Influenced How She Decorated Their “Family Home”
Speaking of baby Stormi’s nursery, Ballard tells PEOPLE that it’s an absolutely “beautiful space” with a “kind of butterfly theme.”
“Butterflies are very important to Kylie and Travis [Scott]. Butterflies are really important symbols to Kylie and Travis so she wanted to bring that energy into Stormi’s room,” he says. “They have a very personal connection. I think it was because when they met there were butterflies around. We have a beautiful theme with artwork of butterflies in the nursery. There is some color in the nursery but it’s mostly from the artwork.”
Stormi’s playroom also has a whimsical vibe to it. “There are giant clouds that float all across the ceiling and they all change color,” the interior designer remarks. “It looks like cotton candy floating across the ceiling.”
“They’re made out of microfiber,” he explains. “They change color and dim and brighten and they’re the most magical thing. It’s adorable. They’re amazing.”
While the KarJenners are known for their immaculate homes, Ballard notes that the Kylie Cosmetics mogul “understands that kids will be kids.”
“Of course there are toys all over the place that kids have. But she does have a big playroom where a lot of it is kept,” the designer adds.
With Scott, 26, and Jenner’s baby girl in mind, Ballard says the pair wanted to make sure Jenner’s home was filled with furniture and fabric that wouldn’t be too easily damaged.
“We make sure that everything is comfortable and inviting. Nothing is too precious that you can’t stand on it or dance on it. It’s a home that’s made for living,” he shares. “We used a lot of fabrics that are outdoor fabrics so the baby can play on the furniture and not ruin the fabric. We made it a very modern home in that sense.”
