How Jenna Bush Hager First Told Today Co-Host Hoda Kotb That She Was Pregnant with Baby No. 3
Good news deserves to be shared!
Shortly after Jenna Bush Hager announced to her Today co-anchors that she and her husband Henry Hager are expecting their third child — a boy — she got a chance to get on the phone with her new 10 a.m. co-host Hoda Kotb, who recently welcomed her second child, daughter Hope Catherine.
“Hoda, can you believe it?” she asked Kotb, after the pair were connected.
“Oh my God, I’m so happy!” her co-host shared, adding that she had actually been “eavesdropping” from home on her headset earlier in the show.
“Well, we miss you,” shared the former first daughter, 37. “And you know what that newborn baby fog is like. So I can’t wait, even though I’m a little scared.”
Of course, this wasn’t the first Kotb, 54, was hearing of Bush Hager’s pregnancy news. “Jenna, first of all, you’re amazing. And when you told me that you were pregnant, I still remember because … we were wondering about adoption issues, but listening to you, I was praying,” Kotb shared.

“And you said, ‘Oh Hoda, I feel so bad.’ I said, ‘Please don’t!’ I was literally kind of holding onto a little secret and look at us, now it’s all out in the open,” she added, referring to baby Hope’s arrival.
Offering her heartfelt congratulations, Kotb went on to praise her new co-host.
“I feel like this is your year for a million reasons. You are on the show you were born to be on, you’re expanding your family, which is exactly what is supposed to be happening. This is the year of Jenna Bush Hager,” she shared.
“That is so sweet, Hoda,” Bush Hager replied, quipping that it’s also “the year of Hope Catherine.”

Bush Hager went on to share that after she first found out she was pregnant, she initially felt guilty.
“When I had that conversation with Hoda, because I knew she wanted this baby, I called my mom,” she remarked, explaining that her sister Barbara Pierce Bush — who recently had a second wedding to husband Craig Coyne — is also trying to get pregnant.
“I said, ‘Barbara’ — who just got married — ‘and Hoda, they want these babies, and I have this guilt.’ And my mom said, ‘Everybody gets their babies when they’re supposed to,’ ” she remarked. “My mom and her mom before her struggled with infertility forever, and so I thought that was a beautiful thing to say.”
Continuing, she remarked, “I don’t take this lightly. I know how blessed and lucky I am. It’s an amazing gift. So Hoda, thank you for your love and happiness and support — and give that baby a kiss.”
Bush Hager and her husband of 10 years are also proud parents to daughters Poppy Louise, 3½, and Margaret “Mila” Laura, 6.
Bush Hager’s big news came the same day her fellow Today star Dylan Dreyer revealed that she and husband Brian Fichera are experiencing secondary infertility and had a miscarriage over the winter season.
Touching on her own struggles with getting pregnant, shortly after revealing the sex of her baby on the way, Bush Hager explained that while it’s nice to be expecting a son, she and her husband just wanted to have a “healthy baby.”
“We weren’t really trying to get pregnant. We had some fertility issues with Poppy. So we just — it was a date night,” she shared, adding with a laugh, “Sorry, Mom!”

Just one day before sharing her happy news with the world, the mom-to-be and Hager, 40, broke the news to their two daughters on Easter Sunday.
“The Easter bunny brought them an egg with the big reveal,” Bush Hager explained, going on to share a video of the sweet surprise.
“What do you guys want the very most? In the whole world?” she asked at the start of the clip. After first guessing that the surprise would revolve around a toy, the couple’s older daughter correctly guessed that they had been “praying” for a “baby.”

Although the children were initially confused about where the baby boy would be coming from, they quickly began showing their excitement.
“Baby!” shouted Poppy, as she ran over to hug her mother’s stomach.
And after checking to make sure the news was for real, Bush Hager’s daughter Mila joined her sister in jumping up and down and giggling at the good news.
On-air, Bush Hager went on to share that her children’s excitement didn’t subside after they first found out they would be big sisters. “They told the man behind me on the airplane, they told the people at church,” she shared. “The girls are so happy.”
