Stila's Newest Liquid Liner Is Our New Supreme
Stila Cosmetics' Stay All Day Eyeliner is the stuff of beauty legend. Among the members of the choir singing the liner's praises are our own editors and even you, our readers, who gave it a 2020 Allure Readers' Choice Award. It's the product we use for our Zoom meeting cat-eyes, it's the product we cry in (through the tears, it goes absolutely nowhere), and it's the eyeliner pen we reach for on the days we're trying to cheer ourselves up with a graphic liner look to wear with our now-perfunctory face masks.
All of this is to say, it's a beloved classic. And to be quite frank, it was hard to think of a way this fan-favorite liner could be improved. But, of course, the geniuses over at Stila did — it released a dark brown version, and another iteration of the liner boasting a microfine tip. But it didn't stop there. No, sirs, madams, and nonbinary cohorts, Stila has actually found yet another way to upgrade the Stay All Day Liner, and this time, they it decided to make it dual-ended. And, of course, I had to try it.
I like to create my cat-eye with liner pens, and for me, the finer the tip the better. It just gives me more control to get that wing just perfect. After playing around with the shadows in the Byredo 5-color eye shadow palette in Sciomancer, I grabbed my Stila liner and got to work.
Of course, a single swipe gives you a saturated black line — no need to go over it. I started with the thicker end to draw a line at the base of my upper lashes, then switch to the micro pen end to draw the tail.
Now, everyone has their own way of drawing a cat-eye, but New York City-based makeup artist Katie Jane Hughes suggests putting your head "in the most neutral position you possibly can, relax your eyes, and get real comfortable. That way, your eye is in the most relaxed position," she previously told Allure. "Then gently place [the liner], without tugging too much, over that fold or within that area."
It was just what the doctor ordered. I was able to carefully sketch out the lines for the wing and fill it in without having to maneuver a bulkier tip. It's truly ideal for finessing your wing, and its precision will also come in handy for when I do more graphic looks. Also, it had that famous staying power, not budging until I washed it away with my Fenty Skin Remove-It-All Cleanser.
At $28, it may seem like a lot, but I'm here to tell you that this liner pen is well worth it. You can pick yours up at Sephora right now.
