Dr. Pimple Popper's New Video Introduced Me To Hidrocystomas And My Life Will Never Be The Same
- Dr. Pimple Popper (a.k.a., dermatologist Sandra Lee, MD) just shared a video of herself popping a hidrocystoma.
- A hidrocystoma is essentially a benign cyst filled with water.
- Hidrocystomas likely develop when a sweat gland becomes blocked.
Normally, I’m already fascinated by Dr. Pimple Popper videos—but this one actually made me gasp out loud.
In her newest Instagram video, dermatologist Sandra Lee, MD, shares something I’ve literally never heard of before…and I watch a lot of Dr. Pimple Popper videos: a hidrocystoma.
You’re probably wondering, What the heck is that? And I’m glad you asked—but I’ll let Dr. Pimple Popper explain. In her video’s caption, she says, “How about a double dose of Hidrocystomas? 🤷🏻♀️ These #cysts are usually filled with water!💥💦💥”

Yep, you heard that right: filled with water. According to the American Osteopathic College of Dermatology, a hidrocystoma is a benign cystic tumor derived of either the eccrine or apocrine sweat gland. (Apocrine sweat glands produce odorous sweat, while eccrine sweat glands produce most other types of sweat, per the National Cancer Institute—don’t worry, it’s still benign, the NCI just has tons of good info.)
Hidrocystomas tend to grow slowly and usually occur on the face, scalp, or eyelid, per the AOCD, but, are luckily asymptomatic. It’s unknown exactly why hidrocystomas occur, but they could pop up when a sweat gland becomes blocked.
Anyway, back to the Dr. Pimple Popper video. You can see the doctor slicing into one of the hidrocystomas, and pinching it with her two fingers. Then—surprise—light pink and clear liquid comes oozing out, kind of like when you pop and drain a blister.
To be totally clear, it’s probably one of the least gross videos Dr. Pimple Popper has done—but arguably the most fascinating (I’m going to say this again: water-filled cysts!). But if you’re yearning for something a little more gnarly, Dr. Pimple Popper shared another video yesterday of a cyst that kept on giving. Seriously—every time you think the cyst is done producing is ricotta cheese-like innards, it just produces more. (You’re welcome for that visual, btw.)
