Three morning habits to help improve health and longevity – expert tips
Personal trainer and nutritionist Daniel Herman has shared three key elements – and more – that are integral to a good morning routine.
“Drink a glass of water as soon as you wake up to rehydrate your body after several hours of sleep,” advised Herman. “This helps kickstart your metabolism and aids in digestion.”
Herman strongly recommended that people should “incorporate physical activity into your morning routine”.
He elaborated: “Whether it’s a brisk walk, jogging, cycling, or a workout session, regular exercise boosts cardiovascular health, enhances mood, and improves longevity.”
Another top tip is to “spend some time outdoors or near a window to absorb natural sunlight”.
Herman explained: “Sunlight exposure helps regulate your circadian rhythm, boosts vitamin D production, and positively impacts mood and overall health.”

An additional tip from Herman includes planning your day by using the mornings to set goals, prioritise tasks, and to schedule the day.
“This helps create a sense of direction and purpose, increasing productivity and reducing stress,” said Herman.

Herman also added that people should “minimise exposure to electronic devices” in the early hours of the day.
“Instead, focus on activities that promote mental clarity and relaxation,” said Herman.
He added: “Remember, consistency is key when establishing morning habits.
“Gradually incorporate these practices into your routine, adjusting them to fit your preferences and lifestyle.”

Hydration, exercise, and vitamin D exposure can all help to promote health and longevity.
The NHS says: “Most people should aim to drink enough during the day so their pee is a clear pale yellow colour.”
As for exercise, people should aim for at least 150 minutes of activity each week – and to wear SPF daily to protect their skin against sun damage.
