This Is How Often You Should Be Throwing Out Your Undies

Let’s be honest, we all have a few pairs of undies that have been in rotation longer than some millennials have been on this earth.

But experts warn that holding on to unmentionables could be bad for our health.

The Good Housekeeping Institute (GHI) recommend binning underwear after a year of use to reduce the risk of infections.

The Sun reports that failing to do so allows bugs like E.coli and dust mites to grow, leading to urinary tract infections, thrush and allergic reactions. Even if you’re regularly washing them, GHI says that most people’s clean undies are home to up to 10,000 living bacteria.

Their guidelines suggest washing your underwear after each use, in water that’s 60 degrees in temperature. They also advise you to wash your pyjamas after three sleeps and bedding once a week.

So it might be time to break up with your butt-huggers if they’re looking more derelicte than chic.
