The Skincare Hack Experts Swear by For A Clear Complexion

You’ve forked out a month’s worth of rent on a fancy new serum/face mask/eyecream but after a few weeks of daily application the glowy, angelic-looking, VS version of yourself it promised on the bottle is still nowhere to be seen. Sound familiar?

Yup, it’s pretty frustrating when your skincare doesn’t deliver. But before you bin your entire beauty stash, you might wanna check your application approach.

“Patting is better than spreading on your skincare,” cosmetic dermatologist Francesca Fusco, told Cosmopolitan.

“It’s more gentle, because patting doesn’t tug and pull at your skin, eventually contributing to more fine lines over time.”

You’re also effectively pressing the product deeper into the skin, enhancing absorption while simultaneously ensuring everything is distributed evenly. This technique stimulates blood flow and promotes collagen.

Plus, it’s way better for your lymphatic system:

“If you spread on your cream, you can accidentally push against the flow of your lymphatic system, which can actually make you puffy – especially around your eye area.”

Like most things though, Francesca explained there is a right and a wrong way of doing it.

“You want to make sure you’re patting on your eye cream from the inner to the outer corner of your eyes, and then applying your face cream from the jawline upward, or from the nasolabial lines [aka the parenthesis that we subtly see that frame our mouths] outward,” she added.

Noted.
