Tom Ford Named a New Lipstick After Cardi B, and Nicki Minaj Fans Are NOT Happy

Cardi B has had some ups and downs over the last few days at New York Fashion Week. Perhaps you heard about the unfortunate incident involving Cardi, her shoes, and those shoes being angrily flung in Nicki Minaj's general direction. But one of her high points has got to be what happened at the Tom Ford Spring 2019 show: While she sat in the front row, the latest Boys & Girls lipstick colors were unveiled backstage, and among them was a sparkly blue shade called Cardi.

Cardi is one of the latest Tom Ford celebrity namesake colors — the Boys & Girls collection has featured shades clearly named for specific stars, like Dakota, Drake, Gal, and Armie — and it's by far the boldest new shade. The high-shine color appears to be a near-royal blue, not unlike Cardi's hair color at the Broccoli City Festival earlier this year, and it's packed with shimmer.

The Tom Ford Beauty Instagram account posted a photo of a blue lip print and the simple caption "Meet Cardi" on Saturday — a day after the alleged altercation with Minaj. Perhaps inevitably, the post has garnered thousands of comments, many of which are from people who say they're disappointed in the brand's decision to name a color after Cardi.

"I won’t be purchasing this, she is a poor example for all women. Her attitude & immature actions are awful. She acts like a toddler who doesn’t know how to control her emotions. I won’t be purchasing any makeup for you all again," one commenter said. Another wrote, "So great to know Tom Ford rewards violence. I don't care who was in the wrong, Cardi B tried to physically assault another woman and she shouldn't be rewarded for exhibiting violent, ILLEGAL and frankly unacceptable behaviour. I have requested a refund for my most recent purchase because there is NO way I am buying from you whilst you congratulate her for making young girls think it is ok to cause bodily harm because of 'online beef.’"

Cardi's supporters didn't take comments like these lying down, applauding the brand's decision and vowing to purchase the lipstick. "Yasssssssss I WILL be buying this!! Her come up and struggle was real that's what the American dream is about," one Cardi fan posted. Another replied, "It is just crazy how much ppl despise this woman. But when you're on top you have many haters..comes with the territory. Good move Tom Ford," while others accused Nicki Minaj fans of creating fake Instagram accounts just so they could leave multiple negative comments on the post. Some opposing fans even got into disparaging arguments that saw both sides slinging obscene personal insults.

Meanwhile, other commenters are ready to move past the controversy. "I see a lot of negative comments about this when it’s just lipstick," one said.

Whether you're on Team Cardi or you're simply looking for a new blue lipstick, Tom Ford Beauty Boys & Girls lipstick in Cardi is now available for $36.
